A year after a near fatal assault resulting in traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder, I was still a broken vessel, trying my best to deal with demons and fears, rampant insomnia, anosmia, dizziness and pain. All too often, I was at the precipice of chaos unable to take the leap to serenity.
Lao, Daoist monk, trained in Classical Chinese Medicine is unabashedly honest, compassionate and intuitive, took my by the hand and guided me across the chasm. Calling upon Chinese medicine, Daoism and a seemingly endless familiarity with the world's sages, he uses humor and patience to lead one to know their own truth and live it from a place of inner peace. With Lao's help, the pieces are coming together, and I'm healthier L.G.
I was diagnosed with Adrenal Insufficiency about 2 and a half years ago. I would sleep 14-15 hrs a day and still feel tired. I was too tired to do anything, I had to put off even simple tasks I didn't even have to think twice of doing before. Over the course of the year, my hemoglobin dropped below 8, which I had to get iron transfusions for, hypotension had gotten worse, digestion and sleeping had gotten worse. Everything was crumbling down and life was slipping through my fingertips and I was extremely frustrated and depressed because of the way life was going and especially not being able to do things I used to do effortlessly. I did some research, set up a regime through which I could manage symptoms and get through my daily chores and school work, Yet I was merely surviving, I wasn't living my life. Then I was blessed to meet Lao through a friend of mine. After the first session with him I remember texting my friend, "I love this guy"!!! it was the beginning of a new chapter of my life. He treats the root cause, not only symptoms. He is loving, gentle and attentive to your needs. The way he works Is like magic, well, that's the best way I can describe it. He sees issues that I may not even recognize and brings them to my attention so that I could work with them.
He also offers classes outside of clinic setting. It is so admirable, his willingness to share and teach what he knows. He always reaches out to people, touches people's hearts and improves quality of life of others. His teachings are always sincere, authentic and genuine since they are coming from his deep level of cultivation, yet funny and interesting at the same time. I feel truly blessed and will be forever grateful to know him and be in his presence. S.K.
Coming to see Lao is one of the best gifts I have given myself in a while. Wanting to make my life more purposeful and always wanting to see the me in me that others see. Those are blessings I get in working with Lao. And so much more, the wisdom of so many ways with always the possibility of maybe. Lao has helped me see myself in a way of love and support with no judgment. Most of the time I love the reflection back to me about what I can DO if I truly want to change. The ever available power of "because I said so" has set me free in many ways. What else could I ask for in a teacher/healer? S.N.
Before meeting you, my life might have been compared to a pool of stagnant water. Stuck in a vicious circle of uncertainty I found myself not trying to move forward nor was I trying to change the things that keep me uncomfortable in my daily routine of life. I would like to sincerely thank you for your wisdom. I am no longer just a pool of water that has no movement. I am in constant movement with everything and everyone around me. You once asked me. Would you rather be happy or right? It took a while for me to understand this simple question. Wow, what a life changing experience I started to have when I put the idea of being happy into my life and not trying to be right. Once I started being happy there was no reason to be right. And so my journey continues, I am living in the present and having so much fun with it. Thank you so very much . B.M.
Choosing who to trust with your health is a very intimate and personal experience, from the first moment of walking into Lao's office I felt comfortable sharing my story. His treatments are unique in the fact that he takes the time to ask questions about physical, mental and emotional health which make the treatments personal and enhance the life that I want to live.
Lao has helped me return to living a full and enjoyable life again and again, from helping me with major life changes, recovering from surgery, modifying athletic training and to my most recent challenge navigating a chronic illness and chronic pain. He is extremely patient and focuses on my specific goals for continuing to lead a passionate life. L.S.
One of the most wonderful things about returning to Houston after being away so long is returning to your yoga classes. After class this morning I felt transformed, really, from a creaky person to one with some fluidity and ease. These tiny steps that you put us through make such a huge difference. Today was especially wonderful, although it may also be the cumulative effect of both days. I will be in class next Tuesday and as often as I can! thank you!. Jean, yoga student

Kim really knows how to make you sweat, push you to your limits and make you feel like playing . Lupe, Yoga Student
If you want to learn the things we 'should have' learned throughout grade school and then way beyond - this is the place to be! Lao is an experience not to be missed! S.S.
I first reached out to Kim for advice when I found myself feeling limited in my teaching by being in a sling for 8 weeks after an injury. She had greatly inspired me with how effortlessly she taught such an engaging class with her wrist in a cast. I remember her telling us to savor plank pose, because we don't fully understand the beauty of a pose until we can't do it. It was a pivotal moment for me as a teacher and a student, because she helped me realize I was only as limited as I allowed myself to be-- that we create our own stories and limitations and our injuries can be our greatest teachers. I regained a sense of strength and perseverance after that and continued to appreciate her intentional and clever style of teaching and being. Without always saying so, she led me to enjoy all aspects of my journey, both pleasant and unpleasant. To savor every tear, injury, lesson, difficult posture, failure, and fall, as well as all of the feel good moments. I have been grateful to have her as my mentor in both my yoga teaching journey and my personal practice. Her wisdom, knowledge, humor, and love for those she guides and nurtures can be sincerely and wholly felt. Though I sometimes wish I had taken her Teacher Training Program at the start of my journey, I know that I would not have been in a place to truly appreciate it's greatness then. I know I discovered Kim, Lao, and the Four Dragons Institute at the right time, all of which has enlightened my life immensely. I have gained knowledge, friends, family, and a better sense of self than I have ever known, and I can only feel complete gratitude. Brittany Pires, Yoga student and teacher
